Africa in the 21st Century
In a bid to contribute to a deeper understanding in the Nordic countries of the dynamics of political and economic reform in Africa, the Nordic Africa Institute convened a conference in Uppsala, Sweden, in October 1994. Ten African academics and policy researchers addressed an audience of Nordic politicians, academics, senior civil servants, journalists, and aid administrators on their vision of Africa's development in the 21 st century. This volume presents a synopsis of the contributions presented at the conference, discussing the origins, achievements, and problems as well as the prospects for sustainable political and economic change in Africa. Although there is a clear recognition of the problems facing Africa, overall the assessments point in a more positive direction than is usually found in current reporting on Africa. |
