Omolade explores the politics and visions of Black feminists in our world today, providing a much needed historical, political and sociological context for understanding the lives and experiences of Black women. This text combines historical voices, spiritual consciousness, and liberation politics to provide a context for understanding the lives and experiences of black women. In these creative writings, the author explores the politics and visions of black feminists in our world today. She examines the social and cultural significance of black women intellectuals and places the present day work, family, and sexual experiences of most black women within their historical backgrounds. By considering a number of specific events and issues - political organizing by black women, the lives of black single mothers and the use of black female troops in the Gulf War - a challenging political perspective of the significance of black women's lives is presented. |
