Field Work
Japanese artist Tadashi Kawamata (b. 1953) specializes in temporary public installations made from thrown-away bits of plywood, cardboard, and other materials. The fragility of his works, which have been mounted outdoors in such cities as New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Montreal, reflects an aesthetic sensitive to the fleeting nature of time. His consciously urban works employ sculpturally complex elements, and their structural flux has been displayed at both documenta and the Venice Biennale. This book considers a recent project for EXPO 2000 in Hannover, Germany. |
