This book examines the known facts concerning chemical dumping, assesses the accuracy (or otherwise) of the media coverage, and analyses in detail the results of the recent government surveys of the bed of the Irish Sea, and the activities of the Helsinki Commission. The impact of these findings is presented in a clear and accessible form, so that all readers will be able to form their own judgement concerning the relative dangers -- both to human and marine life -- resulting from seventy years of dumping. The overall conclusion is that whilst the danger exists, it is minimal as long as chemical weapons remain undisturbed. This should be reassuring. However, the reader is provided with enough information to be able to judge future press reports and government actions. |
