These photographs depict a Weimaraner dog dressed as Louis XIV, posing as Picasso's "Old Guitarist", and variously covered with baby powder, flowers and tinsel. Man Ray, artist William Wegman's stunning weimaraner, was called "the Charlie Chaplin of dog photography" by The New York Times and "the ideal post-modern photographer's model" by New York magazine. In Wegman's beautiful, vibrantly colored Polaroid photographs, Man Ray dresses as Louis XIV, imitates a bat, poses as Picasso's Old Guitarist, and is variously covered with baby powder, flowers, zebra-print fabric, and tinsel. These photographs and Wegman's later work have made Man Ray, Fay Ray, and their family among the best-known models in contemporary art.
