Contemporary Social and Economic Issues
In examining socio-economic issues in contemporary Swaziland, this text pays particular attention to the cultural dimension of development. Acknowledging that Swaziland has both its own problems and problems general to developing countries, it discusses security, family, health and environment.Information on socio-economic issues in contemporary Swaziland is not always readily accessible. This work aims to fill that gap, especially by including research-based contributions by Swazi scholars. Swaziland is of particular interest in respect of, for example: issues of culture and development, especially gender and fertility; the special characteristics of small states; and regional development in Southern Africa. Swaziland faces some problems found generally in developing areas, but others are distinctive. The cultural dimension to development is given particularly close attention throughout. |
