Children's Art of 9/11
Accompanying the harrowing paintings collected for this special book on art created by New York children after the insane events of 2001 is a commentary by Robin Goodman and Andrea Fahnestock that discusses the effects of the trauma on children and how they have responded to it.At times of pain and tragedy, such as the horrific events of September 11, 2001 in New York, children often turn to art to express their deepest emotions. And so they did after 9/11. The New York University Child Study Centre and the Museum of the City of New York have collaborated on this book which presents children's artwork created in response to 9/11. Seventy-five works by children between the ages of five and 18 years, all from the New York area, were selected for the book and accompanying juried exhibiton which is scheduled to open on September 11, 2002. Robin F. Goodman discusses the effects of the tragedy on children and their artistic responses to it. The book features personal essays by prominent New York artists, writers, historians, and civic and religious leaders. The children's commentary about their art is also included. |
