Introductory papers in this volume focus on the evolutionary origin, radiation and modern relationships of genus Haliotis. Further papers review aspects of the reproductive, larval energetics, mechanisms of larval settlement, and the ecology of settlement. The natural mortality of abalone and its causes, predators and diseases are reviewed. There are also papers on the management of abalone fisheries, including stock enhancement.
The book concludes with a study of major abalone fisheries around the world. All the papers are based on an the first International Symposium on Abalone Biology, Fisheries and Culture, held in La Paz, Mexico. |
