Funding Community Initiatives by Silvina Arrossi & Jorge Hardoy & David Satterthwaite
This study details a number of initiatives that have worked successfully in development issues. Focusing on better standards of living conditions for the poor, it shows how novel solutions have been found to provide technical, legal and financial services for those who cannot afford them. Case studies are provided which describe 18 intermediary institutions which provide technical, legal or financial services to low-income households. These institutions work with community organizations to improve water, sanitation, drainage, health care and housing conditions.
Through the analysis of innovative financial systems for income generation, house construction and service provision, the text considers the feasibility of loans for addressing current urban housing problems. It also considers how to increase the scale and effectiveness of support going to low-income households and community organizations. |
