Green Spaces in European Cities
This text looks at some of the more recently created parks in the cities of Europe, with examples ranging from small town parks to large country parks on the peripheries of cities.New parks are often created on disused industrial sites such as La Villette in Paris or Citrcen-Cevennes in Duisburg-Nord. Widely admired they are an integral part of public planning policy as they lend towns character while simultaneously fulfilling ecological and social needs and, not least, they increase the value of property and land. This volume presents a range of examples, from the smaller town park to the larger country parks on the periphery of the city. Taken from individual issues of Topos, the examples include Tapiola in Finland, the Museums garden in Santiago de Compostela, Parc de Bercy in Paris, Park Juan Carlos I in Madrid. This selection of well-known and also lesser-known European parks will provide an informative overview of the function of green spaces in towns today |
